The Sheepdog Puppy Duet

Callie Bordeaux’s “Chanson de Deux Chiots Chien de Berger”

(Based on, and sung to the tune of, the “Gendarmes’ Duet”)

If there’s a ram that looks all fearsome
Or a ewe that’s awfully cross
Then we pretend we’ve never seen them
And so we let them think they’re boss!
But should we see a tiny lambykins
Or a fresh petit mouton … (whadda we do?)

We round ’em up (we round ’em up)
We round ’em up (we round ’em up)
We show them we’re the dogs in charge!
We round ’em up (we round ’em up)
We round ’em up (we round ’em up)
We show them we’re the dogs in charge!

If the wind is blowing a hurricane
Or the rain is tipping down
And the ground’s all wet and slippery
Then you won’t find us around.
But if the day is warm and sunny
And the flock is close to hand … (whadda we do?)

We round ’em up…

When our working day has finishèd
Then we take a great delight
In boasting of our fearlessness
Before we settle for the night
And if we find it hard to slumber
Then we don’t start counting sheep … (whadda we do?)

We round ’em up…
